Margaret Valenti
Business Support Manager, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
After completing her studies in Business Management, Margaret joined NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Catering in 2006, providing business support across two Central Production Units. Her commitment to professional development saw her achieve the Highfield Award in Scotland for Food Hygiene in 2009, followed by a Level 4 HACCP certification with Credit.
Throughout her career, Margaret has contributed to numerous catering initiatives and projects at both national and local levels. Most notably, she played a significant role in refurbishing the two Central Production Units and the transition to a cook-freeze model of food service across the entire health board—the largest in Scotland—serving up to 6,000 patients daily across four sectors.
In 2023, Margaret was appointed Business Support Manager within the Corporate Catering Team. In this role, she leads initiatives to enhance catering quality and standards, ensuring robust governance and compliance with national legislation across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Her responsibilities also include working closely with Local Authority Environmental Health Officers to uphold food safety standards and representing the organisation on Catering Advisory Panels. Margaret also collaborates with national procurement teams to ensure the Board’s requirements are consistently met.
She has recently completed the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde “Facilities Leadership Programme”, further developing her leadership skills and practice.
As an active member of the Hospital Caterers Association since 2016, Margaret has strengthened her leadership and influence both locally and nationally. She currently serves as National Assistant Secretary, West of Scotland Branch Director, and Branch Secretary. Her dedication has been recognised through several awards, including the HCA Special Recognition Award in 2022 for supporting her branch during the pandemic and the HCA Rising Star Award in 2025.
